Thrive's Foster Gamble

Lilou interviewed Foster Gamble on his movie THRIVE, for those of you that are interested. I slipped the DVD into my husband's stocking this year. Apparently, the film is doing well all over the world.

Wake Up Interview

For all of you that watched the movie Wake Up, and might like to hear more about the documentary, Coast to Coast interviewed both Jonas and Steve Hutinksky on December 1st.

The interview was quite interesting as it's been awhile since the documentary was released. Oprah will be showing the film on her network, OWN, as well.

Here is the trailer to the movie if you don't know what I'm talking about:

Movies Worth Watching

I don't know if you've noticed, but I've built quite a video library over on my sidebar. All of these movies I can personally vouch for, but one or two stand out in terms of content, how easy they are to understand, and how interesting they are to watch from a visual point of view. Two are made by the same company, Avaiya, and of those two I would like to highlight one of them today.

Leap! Let Your Adventure Begin. I found this film to be interesting, amusing, and perfect for someone who is new to the whole consciousness field of understanding. From the movie jacket:

"Each of us is cast into this amazing Human Game. For many of us, we've created countless situations and storylines to hide our true power and limit our experiences while playing. Ike Allen and Chad Cameron have created Leap! to remind you that you're here to be the main character and hero in this amazing creation and ultimately, uncover your own meaning, totality and True Identity. The only question now is will you take the Leap! or stay asleep?"

Here is the trailer:

I have watched several more that did not make it to the sidebar. They may have been interesting, but not well-made, or vice-versa. In other words, not worth your money. But if you are a visual learner and would like to understand more about how science is on the cutting edge of some really fantastic leaps in understanding, I would highly recommend this film. I can guarantee it will make you feel good!

I'm also open to suggestions from you. Watch any good movies lately?

I AM - The Movie

(Portland opening - at my favorite deli with some of his fans, I'm sure.)

Sometimes a story comes along that you know is still in the making, but it makes you smile, and you can't wait to tell someone about it. I think the movie I AM, The Shift Is About To Hit The Fan, which is just now being released in limited venues, is going to be a must-see for 2011.

Director Tom Shadyac was wildly successful with hits Ace Ventura - Pet Detective, Liar Liar, The Nutty Professor and Bruce Almighty. Then he had a bad bicycle accident, which started him on the path he is now on - giving his fortune away to those less fortunate, doing away with the private jet, going from a three-home estate to diggs far less grand in a trailer park, and making a movie that just might matter. The money will benefit his foundation. It opened to packed houses in Portland, with standing ovations for Shadyac, who was in the audience.

Hope For Humanity

This new movie from David Sereda through Voice Entertainment has introduced me to some new concepts regarding education. There is no doubt that the children entering our world now are different from past generations. Grandparents can tell you that they are different, in many ways, than their children who are having them. They learn at screaming speeds. They are interested in concepts that seem beyond their years. They are busy, curious, and full of energy. They are also being diagnosed in astonishing numbers to have ADD, ADHD, Bi-Polar Disorder, etc., and put on more and more drugs to control them.  So what is happening?

We know that each generation "inherits" certain knowledge passed on from previous generations. The Empty Slate philosophy, whereby children know nothing when born, has long been pushed aside in Human Development fields. In fact babies are very aware little beings the moment they enter this world. They just don't realize they are separate from their parents or their environment. Which may be more intuned with what is in fact reality, but that is another discussion.

I see an educational crises in our country, and I would bet the same thing is happening in many other countries. Our children have evolved past linear-sequential learning, which is the basis of how we teach in our school systems. We know that people learn differently - some are auditory learners, some visual, and some kinetic (touch.) Yet when these children (kinetic) go into an alpha state, which is a learning state, they are staring down and to the right - which is exactly when most teachers reprimand them for not paying attention.

Our children are learning in 3-D, especially through video games. They learn to assess situations as a "whole" not in the parts that are the basis of linear-sequential learning. This can be a big problem at the high school level. These young adults are simply bored. Their worlds are huge through the Internet, games, instant communication, the ability to follow up on anything of interest simply by using Google. They are getting information from all directions. They see the world differently. What could they learn about math, science, history, art, if given the opportunity to learn through mind-expanding techniques? Video games that teach, instead of brain wash them for war and violence? What if we taught our high-schoolers to meditate? To pay attention to their connections to Universal Consciousness. How could that change how and what they learn? Would they be able to teach as well?

Tomorrow we will look at some extraordinary children. Let's listen to what they have to say.

ADDENDUM - "Tomorrow" will actually be Thursday - I couldn't resist the Cairo post.

The King's Speech

On a lighter note, have you had a chance to see The King's Speech? Already nominated for a load of Oscars, I can certainly understand why. I won't give the story away, but I will say we were totally enthralled for the two hour movie. After leaving the theater complex my husband said he couldn't believe how fast it went. The period set is as wonderful as the story, and the actors deserve the Oscars they will surely win.

And he wanted to see Green Hornet!

Toy Story Three

So off we went to the movie with our 21/2 year old grandson today. He is all things Toy Story, and transports his Buzz Lightyear and Woody everywhere he goes. What was surprising? The tears in my eyes at the end of the movie. I won't be a spoiler of endings - but just let me say - I'm glad I saved my older daughter's Polly Pockets and my younger daughter's Floppy Dolls.

Pulling them out of their boxes for my grandson to play with, and watching his mother enjoy her toys as much as he was, made hauling them around for three moves definitely worth it.

After all, toys are people too!

Pirate Radio

We picked two movies to watch this weekend. My pick was a flop, in our opinion. We didn't make it to the end, despite Ricky Gervais, a favorite of mine. I can't recommend The Invention of Lying. However, my husband's pick rocked - literally! We loved this movie! Without giving away the plot to those that might want to watch it - just let me say, if you love rock and roll, especially music from the sixties, you must watch this movie.

Two big thumbs up!

And the recipient of The Shift is....

Mental P. Mama! Just drop me a line Mama, with your address, and I'll stick this movie in the mail to you. Wow - and it was your birthday yesterday, too! It was meant to be. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. My husband, who actually drew the names, wanted to watch it twice. Yes, the man who reads most things having to do with finance and economics, wanted to watch it twice. That in itself is a "shift."

Thanks for playing along everyone. I'm so happy to hear it is on Netflix and Blockbuster. If you think you might be interested in Dr. Dyer's movie, then it certainly is worth a Netflix risk.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We are essentially snowed in. The main artery between Reno and Sacramento, I-80, was closed for ten hours last night. A big pileup, complete with four semi-truck and trailers and fire. Who, if you were to ask my opinion, would say they drive way to fast in most inclement conditions, and always scare the @#$@ out of me when I'm trying to stay out of their way. So we will, in all likelyhood, miss our friend's Greek surprise birthday party on Saturday in the Bay Area. I was looking forward to some Greek dancing ( me, in an awkward way), plenty of Opa's!, and lovely people. Instead it will probably be a Netflix movie and trying to stay off the roads and out of the way.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, wherever you are.

The Shift

I ordered the movie "The Shift", which features Dr. Wayne Dyer, in a full feature film. I didn't know what to expect because most of my spiritual education comes from books. Including a couple of his, which was always worth my time.

Up until now.

This film was really good. Is it a block-buster? No. It's a film for people who are feeling a shift in their spiritual life and would like information in a new format.

Throughout the movie little nuggets would be delivered that held special meaning for people in a variety of life circumstances. From the busy mother, to the angry businessman, to the average joe doing his job. Having Dr. Dyer share some of his personal history was also interesting. Don't you every wonder how some people can seem so enlightened, while the rest of us struggle?

Anyway, I will pass it along to one of you as soon as my husband watches it. It really should make the rounds. So if you would like to drop me a comment letting me know that you are interested in a film like this, and would like to watch it, I'll send it to you. All I ask is that you take some quiet time for yourself and sit and watch it alone. My computer worked great. There are times when you need to stop the movie, close your eyes, and think about what was said. Hard to do when someone else is watching it with you. Not to mention that I really didn't want a critique of the movie from my husband. I just wanted to absorb what was being said. I'm having him watch it alone as well.

Then do the same thing - pass it along. If more than one person asks for it, then I'll put the names in a hat and draw one on Friday. You can watch the trailer for the movie at the above link. You can also order the movie online for download to your computer. If you do watch it, please let me know what you think.

Avatar 3-D

I thought I would take a break from Memory Lane and give you my take on Avatar, the movie. If you like science fiction, and action, you will like this movie. I thought it was very well done. It is not a child's movie by any means, it has adult content and message. The theater was full of people our age, who had waited until the kids were back in school to go see it. The 3-D took a little getting used to, but was worth choosing the version that required the glasses, in my opinion. The message was great, and one that we need to heed.

All in all - TWO THUMBS UP!

The Men Who Stare At Goats

We went to see this movie yesterday. It had George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, Ewan MacGregor, and Jeff Bridges. All actors that I enjoy. I think what made watching the movie fun was first reading a special post that Linda Pendleton did a while ago. Go here to read about psychic spies - which is what this movie was based on. It was a special unit known as Stargate. She included a video of an interview with Joseph McMoneagle, who was known as Remote Viewer #1.

This movie was worth watching. It was funny and worth the price of admission.

Julie & Julia

I updated, finally, my movie widget. I guess you can tell we haven't been watching many movies lately. I downgraded my netflix to two-at-a-time from a high of five, during the deep white of winter. But even those two have sat, gathering dust. The fact is we are feeling edgy, not wanting to watch anything that requires too much thought, entails violence, or anger. But the upset with my neighbor, over his squirrel hunting, sent us out yesterday for some light entertainment. Enter Julie and Julia.

It resonated with me on so many levels. For one, I adore Meryl Streep. What a joy to see her beautifully aging face actually move, and have expression. She is so real. The story was full of love, laughter, tenderness, and fun.

We both came away, holding hands, and wishing life were less complicated. We are a nation of people on the edge. It feels like a feather could topple us right now. There is a concerted effort by the folks at Fox News - especially Glenn Beck - to do as much damage as possible, without ever coming up with a solution to anything. Instead of a nation coming together to solve these gigantic problems, we are being torn apart, by "entertainers."

So we need to take our happiness where we can get it, and this movie gives it. Take a moment of your time and go see it. We are writers here in the blog world, and it's all about us. Our hopes and dreams, our connections. It's also about food, love, and sharing.

Does it get any better than that?
