Soul Groups, Contd.

Okay, so if we entertain the idea of soul groups, wouldn't that completely change how one sees others and the world? I mean, if large groups of souls are incarnating to learn and to grow, providing scenarios to facilitate each other's soul development, then we have no enemies - only teachers. All the world's a stage.

If we look at the people who irritate us the most as being loving friends, kindly holding a mirror for us to see ourselves, how can we hate anyone? That guy that just cut you off in his car - not an !@$#, but someone providing the opportunity for you to learn patience and control over your anger. The boyfriend who keeps cheating on you - maybe he's trying to help you to learn to honor yourself. He only looks and acts like a jerk. Maybe you mutually decided on a plan long before you ever met. It is said that the best teachers in life are the ones who hold the mirror for us to see ourselves.

Doesn't that lead directly back to all the great teachings - to love thy neighbor as thy self? Once this concept was understood wouldn't that end hate, bigotry, racism, corruption, greed, etc.? People would realize the profound truth - that they are totally responsible for how they think and act. Free choice gives us the ability to move forward, or move backwards, and all the people we want to blame for all of our troubles are actually here playing a role for our benefit.

I think this concept could changes things. What do you think?

The Republican Party

Sorry, I try to stay away from negative posts, but this was just too important.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am shocked and appalled at the behavior of the Tea Baggers yesterday in Washington DC. Calling our Congressmen "niggers" and inciting hate and bigotry. This behavior is just unacceptable. Spitting on our legislators? Some signs calling for killing our president and using guns to stop health care reform! Have these people gone completely off their rocker? What kind of people listen to this garbage, let alone condone it? Fox News is inciting hatred and violence in this country and it has got to stop!

I ended another friendship yesterday because a "friend" felt the need to send me a hate-filled email over  this legislation. Mind you, I never send anything to him, yet he feels perfectly justified filling my email box with this vitriol. It proves how ignorant and hateful he really is, and I want absolutely nothing to do with him any longer. Another friend bites the dust. All this over health care reform? Really? We can wage two wars, kill thousands, and the country comes apart over health care reform?

This kind of energy will have it's consequences. You can be sure of that.

How far did you say he was from that building?

I was following my regular routine that morning, eight years ago. Watching something on television while I walked on the treadmill before going to work. The phone rang, and it was my husband. He said he was okay, that a plane had hit a building close by, and he didn't want me to worry. Hmmm - better turn on the news while I walk on the treadmill.

Next call - he's been evacuated - had to leave everything in the hotel room and start walking. It was a big plane that hit the World Trade Center. Uh-oh, another plane hit! Next call was from his office. His boss saying he had been in contact with him, he is okay, but was being evacuated. He said his hotel was across the street and a hundred feet from the WTC. Just as he said that I watched on TV as the first tower came crashing down. HOW FAR DID YOU SAY HE WAS FROM THAT BUILDING?

We all know the rest of the story.

My husband, and his fellow employees walked up Madison Avenue, without purses, laptops, clothes. Without a place to sleep, without medications. But people they knew that lived in NYC rallied. They ended up finding a room at what turned out to be a very posh hotel. They were able to find some clothes, food, alcohol. Lots of alcohol. American Express was able to get my husband's medication, and their boss was able to eventually get them home by flying them out of New Jersey, at a time when no planes were flying. My husband calls him on this anniversary every year to thank him.

It took six months to get his things from that hotel across the street where so many innocent lives were lost. He had to sign a release stating he would not hold the hotel responsible for what may be on and in his things. He signed the release.

The evil perpetrated on that day will never be forgotten. Not by me, my husband, our family, or our country. Never.

But my hope is that we will eventually see that hating will never change the world. And we so need to change the world. Maybe, one day we will all realize that we are One. When we harm another, we are really harming ourselves. That violence begets violence, but so does empathy, love, kindness, and generosity. We have a choice.

One Person, One Change

Thank you all for your comments and wise words. One thing that jumped out at me was the universal desire for people to be treated with dignity, kindness, and equality. This came from all over the world. This one desire. Oh sure, we want our collective governments to play fair, get out of the hate game, and do right by us and the world. But the overwhelming response was for people to treat each other as equals. And no matter where you are from, there are always those that want to elevate themselves at your expense. They think they are better because they may have more money, education, status, power. But they are not better, they only have more money, education, status, and power. And we cannot change that. The only thing we have power over is ourselves.

But that power can change the world. One mind at a time. One change at a time.

I have made some changes in my mind over the last few months. I no longer accept e-mails from friends and family that are cloaked in jokes, patriotism, stories, etc., but are actually hidden hate bombs. You know the ones - they start out nice or interesting, but end with you feeling bad, or at least uneasy. They are usually against Obama, immigrants, other nations, other nationalities, other races, the poor. They always have a target. They always have an agenda. Needless to say, this has not made me popular with said family and friends. (And I get far fewer e-mails.) But I felt I needed to make a stand. Just one person, one change.

What about you? Have you made any changes lately that you feel strongly about?
