The email that was sent to me with this picture said the oil rig operator that took the picture did not know the tornado was there when he snapped the shot of the lightening.
Nature is so powerful...and also peaceful. I feel peaceful knowing that there is something more powerful than us out there. Thanks for posting this picture. It's thought-provoking!
This may sound weird but, I would love to be in the middle of such an event. Just to be in the presence of such an uncontrollable force. I absolutely love wicked thunderstorms.
Wow!!! This is...wow! Thanks for your post on my wallpaper blog. Yup, I've been uploading a few pictures in the office, and since it doesn't take long i don't feel so guilty doing that in the office. Lol. But I'm back now. Thanks a lot for your comments, you're really making me feel like I'm part of the blogging community!!
I'm not totally sure it is real - but the person who sent it to me is notorious for checking Snopes. But you would think if it was real it would be on all the news. But then I haven't watched the news in a long time... Trying to stay centered.
Reya - I thought the exact same thing when I first looked at it!!
As lightning won't target it is mostly us who have to be careful of nature and its powers. Nevertheless, a fact, that brings me closer to nature. Unbelievable picture.
I'm also notorious for checking Snopes.. and they say that it's real (and I say spectacular). It was taken in Florida in 1991 and has existed as a poster since 2001.
Hmmm... tornado... I think that's probably the only "natural disaster" type element I haven't been around (other than a tsunami). Something you can see coming towards you but can't outrun, yikes!
I'd have to say that it looks a little photo shopped, but yet again... i wouldn't be surprised if I'm only telling myself that, because this picture is just beyond my capability to absorb.

That's amazing!1
Wow...this just couldn't be a more perfect picture of the power of nature...and some of its dangers!

What an amazing photograph. Nature in all her glory, most definitely!
wow what a shot ...
Wow what an incredible picture. Do you think it's real?
At first glance what I saw was a woman standing with arms outstretched. Then I saw (strangely) a uterus! Then finally I read the text.
Real or not, wow. WOW.
Thank you for sharing. That is an amazing photo, so powerful and commanding. Wow. I think it is inspiring.
Very powerful photo. I'd seen it before. Not entirely convinced it's real though.

So does anyone know?

Thanks for clearing that up, Hilary!!
I wonder now how close the tornado came to the oil rig. It looks like it is bearing down on it. I think I'd be looking for a way off.
That is crazy! Cool picture. --C. Taylor Brown http://chriswasbrown.blogspot.com

Whether it is real or not ~ it is still mind blowing! Thanks LOL.xx♥
Actually Snoops.com says it is false. The oil rig part is added to the original photo. But the original photo is pretty cool.

It's so symbolic, isn't it?
It's also quite a heart wrenching thought one has when one realizes what that symbolism is.
Terrifying! Glad I don't have to worry about that where I live. ~Bo
