It Was A Hit

The reaction was exactly what I thought it might be! My grandson loved his gift of music! He's only sixteen months old, but for some reason, he loves all kinds of music and as soon as I put it on, he wanted up. He immediately put his head on my shoulder and snuggled in for some music and dancing with his grandma. Of course, if you wear out and need to pass him off, he does the exact same thing with the next person. It's like he goes into another world, and likes nothing better than to listen and be close! He never seems to tire of the exercise. Only problem is the dancer part of the exercise is the only one getting any. He's getting a bit big and feels like a warm little sack of potatoes. But, honestly, - do I really have anything better to do than dance with my grandson? Can there be anything better? And exactly how long do you think I have, before this is something he will be way too cool for?

On another note, for those of you who have heard the story of mat, liz, and madeline, they will be on Oprah today. For those of you that have not heard the story, it is a sad one. Mat and Liz had their first baby a year ago, but Liz died the next day. The blog is done by Mat as he struggled to care for his newborn and grieve for his wife. He took tons of pictures and I've followed it from day one. It is sad, happy, funny at times, and very soulful. You can't help but love Madeline and respect Mat. They have been in People Magazine and even on Rachael Ray.
It is a "count your blessings" kind of story.

You just may have a musician there in your grandson! How wonderful when they enjoy music like that, wonderful for you too, with a great dance partner.

Oh, how I can relate! Last night my two oldest granddaughters (they have two younger sisters) came to spend their week off with us. The 14-yr-old is way too cool. I still gets hugs and a kiss now and then. The 11-yr-old still sits in my lap for her favorite back-scratch. But I miss the things they outgrew... I feel a blog coming on!

I'll check out the other story.

I just see you dancing with your grandson. Its such a beautiful memory to keep forever. And I'm sure he will want to hear the story of when he shared those moments many times as he grows up. Something he will always treasure as well. This post just warms the heart.

Ah, babies and music - it doesn't get much better than that! My 7-week old grandson loves to snuggle up, his head right up under my chin, with the music in the background. And, when he goes home, I'm still humming the tune and smelling his wonderful baby smell on my shoulder.

I will tune into Oprah today and will probably spend my afternoon weeping.

You wonder why your grandson enjoys the music? Because he has good taste! :o)

I think most young children (of friends, family) I've spent time with enjoy music, and I'm not at all surprised, it is after all the only universal language we have on this planet! The trick is to keep them enjoying/appreciating "good" music as they grow older! Much harder to do... :p

My favourite memory with a small child and music was ~ 16 yrs ago when we lived in Mexico. Some friends of ours used to come over very often to our house (he is a French chef and he and my dad would have fun inventing meals in the kitchen). They had two young kids who loved our dog (a dalmatian). The youngest actually learnt to walk by holding on to her! Back to the music part. This little boy discovered Disney's Fantasia at our house and so adored it that when we gave a copy to his parents they ended up having to play it at home over and over and over. The piece he reacted to most was one from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker suite (I think), the one with the Mushroom's doing the Russian dance. He was the cutest thing ever bobbing up and down dancing and keeping time with those mushrooms! And it wasn't just seeing them on TV, whenever he heard that music (off a cd), he's start bobbing up and down all over again!

Music... can't imagine life without it!

PS: Lol, I got inspired with all the Easter talk, go back and check out my latest! ;o)

Thanks for the timely reminder (for me, anyways) that grandbabies grow sooooo fast and also that it's often the simplest of things to please one of them. I also have a grandson, who just turned 1 year old, and I think I'll make him a cd of the James Taylor music he likes so much to hear when he visits. I know just how delightful that grandbaby cuddle is...:) My 11 year old granddaughter is way past the age of cuddles, alas. Since I've been raising her since she was 3 mos. old, I'm more her mom than grandma, and of course I get to see more of the rebellion that comes with adolescence than the unconditional adoration that kids show you when they're little. It's nice to remember, tho:)

Hi: I actually hadn't heard that story nor read the blog so I linked over from yours and viewed the photos and read some of his verse and am, once again, in awe of man's ability to overcome the very worst life throws at him/her.

Nothing so sweet as that head on your shoulder. I think my grandchildren are the only ones to ever truly appreciate my singing!

The story of Mat, Liz and Madeline sounds so very sad and yet their is also redemption if we can manage to get pass the heartache. Too bad I read your blog too late to see Oprah.

It sounds so amazing to see your grandchild dance to the music you bring him, a real hit.

the story of mat is really sad but everybody deals with the pain in their own way, and its a real sad story.
