Ever wonder how the global financial collapse actually happened? Who exactly are the people behind the scenes? I found this documentary on CMN, and from my personal research - this is how it went down.
With the world coming together and looking at solving these problems, it's a good idea to know the specifics of how it happened - so we can make sure it never happens again. We are lucky enough to be part of something really big. The stunned masses are beginning to stir, and history is being created. It won't happen overnight - but we outnumber the people who have run the show up until now. It's our turn.
Synchrosecrets did a wonderful post today on Indra's Net and how it relates to the Occupy Wall Street movement that is sweeping the world as we speak. One of the people commenting posted "Nine Commandments" that the Occupiers in London are using as their demands (at least some of them). I think they are perfect. What do you think?
1. The current system is unsustainable. It is undemocratic and unjust. We need alternatives; this is where we work towards them.
2. We are of all ethnicities, backgrounds, genders, generations, sexualities dis/abilities and faiths. We stand together with occupations all over the world.
3. We refuse to pay for the banks’ crisis.
4. We do not accept the cuts as either necessary or inevitable. We demand an end to global tax injustice and our democracy representing corporations instead of the people.
5. We want regulators to be genuinely independent of the industries they regulate.
6. We support the strike on the 30th November and the student action on the 9th November, and actions to defend our health services, welfare, education and employment, and to stop wars and arms dealing.
7. We want structural change towards authentic global equality. The world’s resources must go towards caring for people and the planet, not the military, corporate profits or the rich.
8. We stand in solidarity with the global oppressed and we call for an end to the actions of our government and others in causing this oppression.
9. This is what democracy looks like. Come and join us!
I'm leaving the tab open with your entry, so that I can watch the newsclip you found for us. Thank you so much, Nancy. My blog is memoir, but I DEEPLY appreciate blogs like yours, like Jo's, like others, that bring the larger world to focus.
I may not write about these in my blog, but I SURE DO want to read of them! And it's a gift when someone else has done some of the "legwork" and shares that.
nice...saw the news yesterday on OWS in other countries...i think this is great...i like their 9 commandments...and cant wait to see the response...this is democracy...
These are wonderful commandments. I follow Trish and Rob over there at Synchrosecrets, too, so heading over there now. I also truly appreciate blogs like yours.
The nine are fine. I'm here in Italy where the demonstrations in Rome got wild in their intensity. It does seem to be global as an idea whose time has come. Thanks for the amazing amounts of research you do. It's inchoate at the moment but a swell, a tide.
This was spoken of by the Mayans so long ago, the people have to take a stand Nancy you are correct, as those who 'rule' the world in power are out of balance and residing in their misguided believe in richness, power and greed. As we approach a planetary shift into the next world age in 2012 many unsettling and growth promoting changes will occur. The average person now must wake, they now must see that together, as you rightly say can achieve so much, putting an end to the dysfunction and the ego driven world of the empty material age.
Okay, I need to catch up on all this. I like that I'm seeing more organization in this effort. This is good for us to see this shakeup. It is how change occurs.
yes, like jeannette, my own currently active blog does not include these kinds of posts either - however, like so many others, i, too, do appreciate blogs like synchrosecrets and yours which do so much to keep so many informed and up to date - these 9 commandments are exactly right! great post, nancy!
I have been impressed by the civility of the OWS movement; how powerful that their message has spread across the pond. Yes, this is exactly what democracy looks like--we need the reminder.
Amazing. These commandments are great-I so agree. And I've said it many times before but will say again how much I appreciate your bringing all of these topics to those of us who don't have the time or opportunity to find them ourselves!
Wow! Sounds like a manifesto or declaration from an Occupy group somewhere. (There are over 1,800 groups, world-wide.) We were just talking about that sort of thing tonight — getting people to write their own statements of why they are involved in our Occupy assembly. Brilliant, Nancy! Absolutely brilliant. Thank you.
I loved the documentary; thank you. I am very hopeful about the demonstrations, and I fully expect that I'll participate in a march or rally before long. I know from the anti-war, civil rights, and women's movements that it can take a long time for the various categories of folks to come together, but the concept of "the 99 percent" creates a very big and welcoming umbrella.
