Bad Ju Ju Closet Finale

Here is the closet we had built into our spare bedroom. It took about six months of pinning the contractor down to do it, and seven weeks of actual work (it was supposed to take three days). He managed to avoid me with the skill of a true Houdini. The end result was not what I had planned, but will be enjoyed none-the-less. It doesn't have the doors I wanted - to match the entry door to the room, it has a pull-out laundry bin instead of tilt out, it doesn't have the shoe rack, and they built the bottom cabinet too low for the hanging bar. But they charged a fraction of what Closets by Design quoted, and since we did the painting, it looks pretty good.

Isn't that what life is all about? Dreaming of what you want, working to get what you want, but being satisfied when the dream isn't exactly what you expected? Learning to enjoy the dream anyway. Learning to be happy with what you have, and not bemoaning what you don't.

I really like my Bad JuJu Closet. It has drawers for my guests to use, a big space for soft luggage, a place for laundry, and a hanging bar for short things. I love the green glass pulls. All in all, I'm happy. And for those of you following along on this "test" of my ability to keep my temper - I passed!

But we will not be doing anymore projects for a while!

Omgosh, I can't believe it's done! I thought it would be the forever project, lol! Congrats on keeping your temper! And also on adjusting and enjoying the final product! Not sure I could have kept my temper in that case....good for you! :)

It's really nice! And yes, your experience is just like life...dreaming of one thing and learning to accept what comes. The key really is learning to enjoy the dream anyway. Good thoughts.

nice. bad juju be gone! and great job passing the test...smiles. and yes, life is like that a lot...we hold our dreams loosely letting greater hands determine our ultimate destinations.

I FINALLY got my closet door knobs put on...only to have one come off in my hand the first time I pulled upon the closet door! But even that got fixed...finally...and now we're working on finishing up the outside work. Plumbing, wiring...I can't wait until everything is DONE! Remodeling is a true temper test, isn't it. Ranks right up there in stressors with divorce, job loss, etc. We're taking five years off before we tackle anything more complicated at the house than changing light bulbs!

It turned out nicely! I'm glad to hear that the contractor completed the project.

It looks great and best of all, highly functional. Contractors probably drag jobs out so that you'll be so glad they are finally done that you will be happy with what you got. hee hee.

Reminds me of the quote "it's not the destination, but the journey"

I figure the bad Ju-Ju will now continue on it's course, directly to the contractor and his place of business. You done good, Nancy. Your posting is - as always - great inspiration and food for thought.

I don't think you can complain. Look at all the mileage you got out of it on your blog, all the interested people in what was happening in your closet. And the result is outstanding! I would love to have that in my room...

Many times it is also the content which can improve the 'outer wardrobe'. Am sure the closet is looking forward to accompany nice clothes of your nice guests.

Congratulations for getting the closet finished and I might add...it looks great. Funny how we want something to be just so but after all is said and done, it still passes muster if it isn't the perfection we thought it should be. You pass!

Hear hear! Living with what is.

And what a brilliant concept and final result for your guests. I love how it accommodates their needs, can I come?

I think just the fact that it is finished is thrilling. Sometimes things turn out way harder than they should. I am so jealous of your market in the previous post. I wish I could find one like that here. And the view-what a bonus!

All good things comes to those who wait...and wait....and wait! LOL! Glad it's done! It looks great! And you've kept your temper in check!

Goodness! It's about time! You know, it is pretty lovely for what it is. I need to work on accepting things as they are and not worrying about what they might have become. I admire that (among many other things) in you.

It must be a relief that it's done. I know how you feel about the dreams. I need a shower in my bathroom because, believe it or not, I haven't got one. I just can't face the upheaval I know it's going to cause. I know I've got to do it, but will I get what I want? Well we'll see won't we. So as your story ends so mine is beginning!
Blessings, Star
