Have you ever met someone, had an immediate connection, and promised to get together at some later date and then didn't follow through? If so, then you and I are much alike. I have had that happen more than once, and because follow-through is not my strong point, I have passed up many times the possibility of making new friends. But last night we had a great evening of talk and dinner with a new couple that we will definitely make time to see again. The woman did my blinds during our remodel and from our very first meeting, I felt as though we had known each other for years. Both married about the same length of time, both with two children, one still in college, both not much into drinking, but love a glass of Grand Marnier, in a warmed glass no-less, after dinner on occasion. I don't think I have ever had a friend that liked that! She thought having one of those, on my deck with the stream as a background, on a summer evening would be heaven. My thoughts exactly! Where did this woman come from? Anyway, she called a couple of days ago, said she and her husband, who is her installer, and as nice as she is, were going to be up this way and would we like to get together? I said yes, lets have dinner at a new Mexican place we found to be really good. After three hours, some ta-kill-ya, wonderful food, we felt like old friends. So next time that happens, I'm going to take the initiative and make the first call. After all, what do we have to lose? And the gain could be serendipity.

Serendipity

You are so lucky! Finding a friend like this is rare, indeed.
this is a wonderful gift .....it's a blessing to read and inspiring to know it's possible..obviously, it's not happened to me in quite some time!!
blessing to you...
I love it when this happens, life throws you a wonderful new friend. Moving as I have, I have been especially blessed in this way.
I love those connections! I feel I have that with Jen (only I don't have the husband, house or babe yet) but there's still time.
Let's definitely all get together while you are in town! It's been too long! I'll talk to Jen about your schedule.
Love when this happens! I know it's rare to find that kind of connection so enjoy. I do hope we get together when you are in town, with or without the offspring (but they are so enjoyable) I'll get the number from LJ and we'll get something going.
It's good to get out of the routines and ruts we dig for ourselves. Now having said so, I'll go look for my shovel :-)
What a great story, and yes! keeping up with this friendship sounds like a perfect thing to do. I love seredipity.
I'm not great on the follow through either but I sure know the kind of connection you mean. I'm glad you had a great time. :)
I believe in serendipity, I do. I also know that there is only so much time in life, and I can't actually be friends with everyone (though I would love to give it a go).
Your blinds person sounds great. New friends and old friends and blog friends - friendship is the center of my life (I'm Aquarian). Bravo to making connections!
It happens to everyone and I've often wondered what prevents one or the other person from making that first step. i think most people are well-intentioned and it may become simply a matter of priorites: do I do what I need to do or am used to doing or do I take the time to get to know someone new? Alot of us are lazy or shy or afraid. Sounds extreme but not meant to be: fear drives alot of behaviour. "What if they don't like me?" "What if I don't like them?" etc. Okay, that's my two cents.
Hello. I came by way of California Girl's Empty Nest Evolution. Your post hits me in the heart. I have dropped the ball so many times. It is indeed a gift to connect with someone like you have. Great post!
I always have a hard time making the first move but wind up being pleased when I do. I've even been accused of being snobby when actually I'm very content just doing my own thing. But this just goes to show you, when you connect with someone, it doesn't matter who does the follow-through!
I have really enjoyed your optimism! Please come take your award from my site. Peace.
Serendipity indeed
I have a new friend I have had lunch with a couple of times over the past couple of weeks. It is the greatest to find someone you feel is like an old friend after one meeting.
