Most people don't believe me when I say this, but... for some reason I can drink a large quantity of tequila without getting drunk. I know, you will say, you just think you're not drunk! But since I was a young woman I can drink way more tequila, if I sip it like a cocktail, all by itself/not mixed with anything sugary, than any other drink. Wine makes me very light-headed after only two glasses, especially at this altitude. Same with an Old Fashioned or any other mixed drink. (I rarely drink anything alcohol any more.) But tequila just doesn't have the same effect. I had a "flight" of three different tequilas tonight with dinner and a shot before, and I feel the same way as if I had one glass of wine. Relaxed, but not really tipsy. (I was shocked at the many, many different tequilas. Some with a "salt" flavor and citrus, some with vanilla, some that were $23 per shot). I passed on the last one.
Any one else out there that loves their tequila, like wine drinkers love their wine?

Ah the miracle of modern chemistry! I get drunkest on beer, strangely. A glass or two of red wine is the perfect buzz, not too much, not too little.
Tequila is a poison for me. When I drink it I always cry. It's almost hallucinogenic for me.
And you, the mighty drinker of tequila! I salute you!
Interesting, isn't it?
The last time I had tequila was 20 years ago. I drink an occaisional red wine in the winter or white wine in the summer. That's about it. Can you eat the worm?
I love Irish coffee. Where's the stew recipe? I'm getting hungry.
Reya - I think teguila affects most people the same way it affects you. Over the years I have seen some heads fall to the table over a night of teguila, with me heading out for a night of dancing! (This, many years ago, I might add.) I have no idea why I can still be fine while all others are "crying" for mercy. Ha ha (I have certainly not fared so well on other libations.)
Butternut - No worm eating for me, thanks. I kinda go for the stuff that doesn't have one. Not that I drink it much, just when I do, I don't seem to be worm-hungry. Ha! As for the stew, it is in progress. I had planned it for a dinner party tonight in fact, trying out Ina Garten's recipe, but one of our guests is Jewish and one of Ina's main ingredients is bacon. So I will try that one another time, and then I think I'm ready for the final stew-cook. So soon...stew soon.
The one time I drank Tequila seriously I had the same reaction as Reya. I went from one place to another with blackouts in between and didn't enjoy the experience at all. You may be a very unusual lady.
My daughter swears that tequila is the only drink that doesn't give her a nasty hangover. Me, I like wine. My favorite is a plum wine. Anything I drink a lot of will make me quite drunk, though. I am a cheap date!
I don't like the taste of tequila well enough to find out if I can handle it.
Oh yeah....another Tequila lover here! My hubby and I are both fans - we do shots though cause we like to get right down to business, plus if it's too sweet then I will most definitely feel yuck in the morning! Ever tried Cabo Wabo tequila made by Sammy Hagar from Van Halen...it's fabulous!
No but I like your reasoning! That cracks me up. So many guys would ply us with tequila when we were young (at least in California) and while I do not and never did have the stamina you have, I would drink it, ALOT. I like the old salt lime straight down the hatch method. Haven't really tried much in the way of new tequilas since we moved back east. It was a treat just to drink Patron.
i share the same thing with u! i just love my tequila and i can take scary amounts of it without getting drunk... =]
