Please World, Keep An Eye On My Little Girl

She heads out tomorrow with two of her best friends for an adventure away from me. Another country. With backpacks and an itinerary that is whimsical. Out of cell-phone reach.

I am praying for an eventful and safe trip. I ask the world to watch out for my little girl. She's yours now, even though I remember holding her hand to cross the street like it was yesterday. She couldn't fall asleep without touching me. Every morning started with a long cuddle in my lap, as I read the paper and drank my first cup of coffee. It was how she started her day.

She still likes some "close time" when I visit. Laying on my bed, sometimes slipping beneath the covers for a short time. Then she is off - to her own room, her own life, her own world.

Letting go is so hard, sometimes.

Oh, Darling! How hard. Well if your precious girl comes my way, I will certainly ask her if she has clean undies, been drinking enough water, and has she called her mum today?xx

Oh how I know that feeling. But of course you know it means you did your job right. :) Sending best thoughts her way, and yours.

Sigh.

I'd love to say that it gets easier, but as you know...

Well, wishes for her and for you.

I understand how you feel. Although Son #1 and #2 live within a day's trip of the house, they're busy and might as well be out of the country.

Might you convince her to visit a couple of Internet cafes and send you a quick note?

They will always be our children, no matter how old they are! I would tell you not worry, but that would be insane!

Greatest experience of my life was backpacking through Europe with a friend when we were 19. We were gone 3 months and I called home only twice. I wrote every week and more, though. Intercontinental phone calls were through the roof in those days. So, I sent post cards & those Aero Postal lightweight ltrs. My mother saved them all and I have a fabulous record of my trip along with a journal. I have often thought how much less I'd have written if I'd had a cell. Your daughter will have a blast.

Oh, how you made me cry. The world will watch out for her and she will be fine. I remember when my son traveled through New Zealand for 10 days - no cell phone nor computer. I had a calm come over me and knew that he was in good hands! And, he was fine.
