The Battle of Wills

My husband and I are engaged in a battle of wills. The will of our two year old grandson, and our will to have him eat breakfast, wear a jacket, get his diaper changed, step back from the television, get his teeth brushed, get his hair combed, get in his stroller, not color on the table, wear clothes, ... well you get the picture. (No wonder his parents were exhausted all the time.)

He cut and run in the store yesterday while he was trying on some new shoes. I literally could not catch him! If it hadn't been for a much younger, and faster, store clerk, he could be in the neighboring county by now. Wow, a few years and I am much slower than I remember being. When did that happen?

And this is only day 3.

Good thing he is utterly charming and adorable...

Charming and adorable count for a lot....I now know why people use those "dog leashes" for children, the ones that I was appalled by years ago, now seem to make perfect sense...smiles.

He sounds like my grandson. They're a trip, but they scare me, because they are so unpredictable. God forbid something happening on my watch.

I have my fingers crossed for you. :) Your peaceful home will be appreciated when he returns home.

LOL...you guys have your hands full. I guess it is a good thing we had our own children at a younger age...when we could keep up....

He's cute...

Just to be clear, you are loving every moment of it? I'm laughing because I have been in your shoes with my two grand littles (girls).. adorable, but messy, obstinate, fast, tiring, cute, exasperating, adorable, infuriating, beautiful, funny little people. This is why we had ours young, Nancy - before they got quicker than us!

Enjoy every moment of the memory making.

Heh. Been there. Still there with the youngest - she got her good looks from her mother, and her stubbornness from me...

Damn heredity.

Good luck!

That's why babies are born to YOUNG people; they have the energy to keep up with them!

Mine were 14 mos apart. I had a full time career. They were both in diapers, real cloth diapers, til I trained the 3 year old out of total frustration in one wknd. I did not think I could change two more sets of diapers. The younger one was all set w/in 6 mos. I don't remember not being tired. It was all about tired.

I can't even imagine trying to keep up with a two year old for a week at this point in my life. You are braver than me or more foolish. hee hee

Funny!!
A quiet home will seem totally different when it's just the two of you again!

When I have kids I am screwed. I am extremely stubborn so my kid is going to be way more stubborn than me. And I will have no recourse. OH man its going to be terrible.

I'm still engaged in a battle of wills with my children and they are in their twenties! lol It does take a lot of energy to keep up with a two year old, and I would imagine it is quite an adjustment. Enjoy every minute! :)

This so reminds me of when my best friend's 2 year old (he's 25 now) took off from us at a shopping mall. The two of us were almost full term pregnant and trying to run after him was a challenge.

So does your three days feel like a month yet? ;)

I wish I could be more positive, but that doesn't sound like much fun to me. Maybe I just haven't been out of raising little ones far enough. :-)

You have my sympathy! After my week with the three girls...... Well, let's just say that I didn't look so chipper the day I left as the day I arrived. But, I miss those litte voices and those strong little arms around my neck. Such a sweet love, the love for a grandchild.....

hahaha, the terrific two's heh? i'm sorry, it's just so cute, the battle of wills, when your not in them anymore. hang in there.

I cannot imagine how I would run after a two year old now....it was all in-day's-work when mine were two. I hope when I have grandchildren, I just have the privilege of coochy-cooing and no responsibities.
@emom...Exactly!

I just looked at Emom's comment, and it reminded me of a moment today. I was at Jane Austen's House with a friend who had come from New York to visit me. We saw a young boy (probably around two) wearing reins, and she said that she thought it was very sensible. Having been mother to "a runner," I have to agree! Maybe you could invest in some?
