Jeff Foxworthy & Nevadans

Limestone cliffs. Great Basin National Park, Nevada, USA.

I have lived in Nevada all of my life. I'm a fourth generation native, and my children are fifth. In this state that is unusual. It was the fastest growing state in the US for many of the last 20 years. My sister sent me this the other day and I laughed out loud. Jeff Foxworthy knows Nevadans. Here's a peek at a state most only think of as either desert or casinos:

FORGET REDNECKS; THIS IS WHAT JEFF FOXWORTHY HAD TO SAY ABOUT NEVADANS!

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you live in Nevada .

If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in Nevada .

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed the wrong number, you live in Nevada .

If "vacation" means going anywhere south of Salt Lake City for the weekend, you live in Nevada .

If you measure distance in hours, you live in Nevada .

If you have switched from "heat" to "A/C" and back again in the same day, you live in Nevada .

If you install security lights on your house and garage but leave both unlocked, you live in Nevada .

If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you live in Nevada .

If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in Nevada .

If the speed limit on the highway is 75 mph -- you're going 80, and everyone is still passing you, you live in Nevada .

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you live in Nevada .

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction, you live in Nevada .

If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly" you live in Nevada .

Of course we just legalized the first male prostitute in the United States this last week. Never say we're not progressive. Geeze.

I love your state and a great place to photograph beautiful scenery. I made a slide show of a visit we really enjoyed in the northern part of the state. http://www.photoshow.com/watch/vr8Sa8rd

I wanted to move to Nevada until I got to the 4 seasons - way too wimpy here for that.

LOL! Progressive is a good thing! I have only been to Las Vegas...I need to come see the beautiful parts!

Thanks for sharing. You are right, most folks think Las Vegas when they hear Nevada - the state is WAY more than LV!

But you live in Lake Tahoe! Beauty, mountains, lakes, and, best of all, Internet Connections! Very cute, Nancy, and probably very true.

Wait, you definitely borrowed some traits from New England ... Heat to ac and back to heat in one day? So New England. Everyone passing you on the highway? Definitely New England. Potholes filled with snow? Typical New England. We've got a lot in common :)

lol. wonderful pic, and thanks for the chuckles. being from VA you just need old cars as lawn ornaments and flower boxes. smiles.

Never been to Nevada nor anywhere westward past Austin, Texas. My plan is to make it that way one day. Nevada looks cool...and cold.

I've never been but that sure does sound like some parts of my native Quebec.. just not the friendly parts. ;) Lovely photo.

That is just too funny ...

4th generation Nevadan, that would be AT LEAST 120 years ago your people arrived in the territory... got to be a story in how and why... do tell one day

I can't imagine my family having been in one spot that long, but it's an appealing idea. My husband's family has been in this area for quite some time (at least 3 or 4 generations), and I like that our children are born at the same hospital as he was. Something about the continuity is comforting.

I know where you live is gorgeous although I've never been to Nevada. I have to admit I like having four seasons!

We call Las Vegas Hawaii's other island since so many of us go there. But look at all the beauty beyond the city limits!

Aloha, Friend!

Gee, your state has so much attention from the comic! Why have I never heard of that state park? Utah gets all the glory. I'm off to look it up!

Hi Nancy, Thank you for visiting my humble little blog and leaving such a nice compliment. You have a wonderful blog...and I will be back to visit. I have never been fortunate to visit Nevada. It sounds like a friendly and lively state hidden behind the Casinos. :)If you ever get the time please feel free to visit with me anytime. Dee

ha ha....he's a funny one. We've used the heat and air in the same day here in Georgia too. That speed limit thing applies here too! but the similarities end there. I've never even been to Nevada!

Nevada's a favorite state of mine - wish I could get west more often (I'm a native Idahoan, but now stranded in the midwest).

Nevada is a beautiful state. I have been to lake Tahoe....many years ago. That being said I think if we look closely there are beautiful areas in all the states in our country.

Hey, this could be Michigan!

We absolutely love Nevada! Highway 50 is the best way to traverse the state we think - definitely measured in hours! Great Basin is a beautiful park - the Bristle Cone Pines defy description! And the Black Rock desert is incredible though we wouldn't dream of going near it during Burning Man, too many people! Tonapah is great overnight stop on the way to Death Valley, I could go on and on! Great post Nancy!!!

Loved this about my home state! I do feel homesick now. The one that really rang true for me was the one about measuring distance in hours instead of miles..so true!

I cut out the article about the male prostitute to send to my sister (also native Nevadan now living in Indiana). The artivle run by our paper here said the guy is being called "the prostidude." Geez indeed.

Nancy, I somehow overlooked this post until now. Everything about Nevada could also be said about Alberta! This was great!
