Toe each his own!

I continue to be amused by the differences in my family. Shoes are a perfect representative of those differences. My husband and my youngest daughter are all about the shoes above. For different reasons, of course. My husband wants them for running after reading a book on running that says running barefoot is better for your feet. These shoes keep your feet clean, while giving them the barefoot feeling. He's hoping to find them in blue/cameo, not purple. My youngest thinks they will be perfect for her trip to Thailand in April. Never the fashionista, she claims she can climb trees, run, jump, and only need to take one pair of shoes on her trip. (Can you imagine a trip for a month and only one pair of shoes?) She would like a little style, however, thus the maryjanes:

My oldest daughter drools over shoes like these, that look very much like the ones she wore New Year's Eve this year:

And this is my newest acquisition in shoes. I stole the idea from Blissed-Out-Grandma. Warmth and comfort are high on my list of desires.

What about you? What type of shoes are you into these days?

P.S. I'm in the middle of something and will be reading and catching up in a few days!

I'm seriously considering the Uggs - the ones you have pictured, as a matter of fact! Comfort girl here all the way. :)

My daughter has a friend who is a rock climber and he's worn the top shoes to our house several times. I call him a gorilla every time he comes in. They're black and they give him what I like to call monkey feet.

My niece, a runner (TBHITW's entire family are runners) just got a pair of the barefoot shoes. The New York Times had a big article on them a few months back. The jury is out whether they are actually any good for your feet. Yes, they protect you from glass and hot roads but offer no support for arches, etc.. Guess we'll see as they become more popular. They were originally created for football players - to train them to be light on their feet and "grip" the field, etc.. seems they are going mainstream.. and boy are the expensive!!

I'm with you and Jen - I LOVE shoes!! fancy, practical, comfortable, sky-high.. I'm sitting here in Ugg Clogs as I type. Walked the dog in my Nikes and will wear Yoga shoes to my yoga class tonight.

My girlfriend showed up last week wearing a pair of those Uggs you have pictured. She complained that they didn't stay up...

Oh my.. guess from the length of this post you can see I'm a little over the top with shoes. My closet is full of them and I am a firm believer that new shoes make everything better!

Those toe shoes are HIDEOUS. I saw someone wearing them in Eugene last summer and was wondering WHY you would wear them anywhere other than a rocky lake bottom?

I can totally see my younger sister wearing them. Ew. I hope dad doesn't!

I avoid shoes whenever possible, I'm afraid. So I get shoes out of which I can slip the moment I am in the house! Fabric clogs... I have sneakers. Mary Janes if I MUST wear shoes. I loved heels for about three years, but found that comfort mattered more to me, to my friends' disgust in my twenties. I own four pairs of shoes, including my sneakers. NO. Five. My water shoes. And since I have trouble even feeling my feet, I do not worry about the cold! Now isn't that kind of a strange perk for having back problems? It will be fun to read the comments from this, Nancy.

i am usually in my converse one stars or a pair of slip on leather low cut boots. i had a pair of leather sandals in the rotation but they broke a year ago and i have yet to find a replacement.

Love the heels! I never wear heels though. They hurt too much and I'd be six feet tall. I wear cute little multi-colored flats most of the time. Today it's gold, square toe, with a gold buckle over the toe.

Slip on cozy ones
I don't usually wear high heals
My D though loves shoes
She even got some flats as holiday gifts .. oh to be young

I spelled heals wrong but maybe I meant it that way LOL

I'm partial to my Chucks and my slip-on Vans. :) Where can I get some of those neat toe shoes?

Definitely equestrian boots. My daughter gave me a pair for Christmas, along with the skinny jeans to go with them. She keeps me in style.

I'm all about comfort. I can't do heels though my sister works in them all day and can stand on stage and perform for hours in shoes I can't even walk in!

If I'm at home (which I always am) I'm either in flip flops or slippers. I love my tennis shoes for walking. I do Mary Janes in the winter and cute sandals in the summer. I do nothing flashy; all my shoes are either black or brown. If I discover they aren't comfortable I just give them to my sister. Whenever I need something girly and sexy I just head to her closet!

I did recently get a pair of Merrell QForms. They supposedly address the difference in the way women and men move. I told my husband I liked them because they made me feel 'bouncy.' They made me want to move. Of course I've not yet worn them, but after I have the baby I intend for us to get outdoors a bit more. I'm excited about trying them:)

I'm a barefoot or birkenstocks kinda gal. As soon as I get to work, the shoes come off. I'm very much like my mother. One time at a restaurant she got told she couldn't eat there without shoes on, she had them, they were just under her chair. I love to look at pretty shoes but when I see them I think "oohh pretty...I bet they hurt"

I go for comfort over fashion, but ugly also makes me uncomfortable. Those top ones might be considered ugly....by some....no idea who....

I'm into low heels or flats, but I like them to be classy. A great pair of high leather boots are nice too. I used to teeter on stilettos, but at 6'2" in my bare feet, that was a look only for the young (and foolish) me- and my poor feet never really forgave me for it.

I used to love cute shoes. Well, I still do love cute shoes, but my feet don't. So, it's flat, comfortable shoes for me all the way. Boring.

I am a full-fledged flip flop chick, but those toe shoes look very intriguing...

As an ex-Birkenstock wearer, I now slouch around in Crocs or slippers in the house, and outside I have two pair of shoes: both slip-on Sas brand shoes. At the gym I wear my New Balance exercise shoes. For hiking I wear German-made Lowa boots. I will never EVER wear another pair of high heels.

Shoes and books are my obsession. I'd go for those boots, but not the barefoot shoes.

Has to be Birkenstocks these days.I get my thrills from seeing my daughter's shoes..purple stiletos with jewels, red with spots you name it, she's adventurous but not extravagent.
Those shoes might be comfy, by gee they're ugly!

My most favorite is barefoot. After that sandals of some type (not flip flops though). If I must wear actual shoes, then comfortable walking shoes or my cowboy boots. Never ever heels.

Nancy,
Josh just saw me reading your blog and looked at these shoes. He wants them incredibly.

:) ha ha ha

I really love... combat boots.
What can I say?

Ha....I love the variety of shoes in your family, and I love that you bought new Uggs. Of course, as soon as I got mine, it rained for two days and then went to zero degrees, so I can't wear them outside yet. I'm using the time to give them extra coats of Scotchguard. Enjoy yours!!!

I'm not sure about those barefoot thingies...but I love those Uggs! And those pumps? Oh la la....

What a nice entry of yours, as it is indeed so important to have a safe step ahead.
If I'm not wrong, remember a while ago, a post with incredible boots (?).
For me, the first picture shoes are a dream. Currently saving a bit of money to get me "a pair of hands", once spring is here.
Please have you all a wonderful Thursday.

Hysterical! Love this post. Shoes. You've hit on something unique here, Nancy. Not shoes - but what they reveal. This never occurred to me and hey - it's a great trait for a character. Thank you!

Comfort! I have several pairs of slip on Easy Spirits that I live in. Gotta be warm and comfy. When pool season hits it's flip flops and crocs. They have to color fast since I have to clean the pool skimmers, etc.

In the winter, I like to wear a nice pair of soft leather boots that rise about four inches above the ankle, with a low heel, for dancing. Or either casual leather slides or ballet flats. Love your boots, you need those in Tahoe! Fun post!

Ohhhh.... Shoe & boots are my weakness.....not sure I sure thank you for posting about these 2 very different styles.... As I would love to have both !!

Also, I want to comment on how much I learned from Michael Talbot's book. Holographic Universe. It was fascinating. I do not know what to make of it.... but I really hope it is the reality..makes more sense to me.
Thank you for writing such a great blog. Kelly

I am a serious Ugg addict and my daughter is too, owning exactly this pair you show and I have been lusting ever since they arrived... I do have other shoes but always, I end up in these .. my Uggs ...
my heels days are far behind my feet!

just today on NPR I heard a doctor talking about this running barefoot thing that people are getting into but the thought seemed to be that we have no forest floors, beaches, soft earth on which to run and concrete demands shoes that cushion the blows... I think I tend to agree after looking at these!!

I'm particularly bad, in that I wear pink Crocs a great deal. I am assured by people on the TV, Tim Gunn for instance, that this is a hideously ugly choice to make. That my feet look like "Hooves" and upon hearing that advice, issuing forth from my TV, I shrugged and said aloud, "So look somewhere else, they're comfortable."

And that's really how I go through life with any kind of fashion choice. Comfortable? Warm enough? Cool enough? That's me, but the only time I dress to be viewed is when I have to go and do something where it is important to be viewed a certain way. Otherwise the citizens of the planet have my personal invitation to not look at my comfortable choices :-)

But even I might balk at the toe shoes, you know why? They don't actually look all that comfortable to me. I foresee in-between-toe irritation during the break in process, and I am soundly against that.

I like your boots. Cool looking but I bet they're comfortable, too.

I have a client who swears by the toe shoes. He wears them everywhere. Frankly I think they're a little bit scary looking!

Jen + me = same love for shoes. This you know! Although I must admit that without sacrificing style, I have been searching for style plus moderate comfort lately.

The toe shoes? THE WORST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN... EVER! And they look horribly uncomfortable. Yet... very Jill!

well, gypsy that i am, i am also a barefoot girl for the most part - my worst nightmare is having to wear shoes - but - when i do - i like to have as small amount of shoe as is possible - and being the gypsy "child" that i am, i also have to have fun, spiffy, "pretty" shoes or "natural" - some with shiny baubles, some just with rope between the toes - winter is not a fun time for me in terms of all that cause there is way too much shoe no matter what - anyway - great post, lady!

I would love to have those purple ones!! I'm into comfort in shoes and clothes.

As I barely leave the house unless I absolutely have to, it has to be my fluffy white slippers for me (blush). But for outdoors, I have a wide range to choose from, from my flat fake tiger skin pumps, my zip up trainers (waterproof for the beach dog walks), to my spikey killer heels for the odd posh occassion I see fit to teeter to.. all have their place.

I just have to LOL at this post, as my wife and I are in a serious (well not too serious) discussion/fight about shoes right now...

We are moving to the US Virgin Islands for 6 months to 2 years. We can take 2 suitcases free, and have to ship anything else. A full box costs @$100 to ship

She wants to ship a full box of shoes

I found a pair of Earth Shoes at a little storefront deep discount place for $20 - and they are amazingly comfortable (and packable). Otherwise, it's three-season wearing of Chaco sandles. Or my kid's outgrown snow boots, which have been needed for most of the last month. Warm - big treads to keep me upright. Fashion is the least of my concerns when there are three inches of ice on most sidewalks!

Lol.. My mom would love to wear the Toe Shoes I'm thinking of getting one for her Birthday, she is going to love the colors on it.

I love the boots, I have a pair of Emu's (very similar to Uggs) that are so comfortable. My favorite for shopping and running errands are my Rocket Dog clogs with a 2 1/2 inch platform. Around the house I wear flip flops.
