DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!

The two biggest proponents of off shore drilling have yet to say anything about the oil leak wreaking unbelievable havoc in the Gulf. SARAH PALIN AND MICHALE STEEL what do you have to say now? Come on, where is the chant you spearheaded during the election?

From Huffington Post:

"Drill, baby, drill! And drill now!" Steele memorably chanted at the Republican National Convention in 2008. "Do you want to put your country first? Then let's make decisions about our security based on what keeps us safe and not on what's politically correct," he told the crowd.

And during that year's vice presidential debate, Palin told Joe Biden, "You even called drilling -- safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore -- as raping the outer continental shelf. There -- with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that."

One fight won here in the Northeast is the offshore windmill farm - off the coast of Nantucket. After a 9 year study and battle by wealthy land owners, FINALLY it is going to be built!

The Florida coast is now being threatened by the spill in the gulf. Millions of dollars in seafood, not to mention the health and life of countless marine animals - now lost.

Come on Palin, where is your voice now?

Good Cook - My thoughts exactly!

I read on another blog that she is tweeting that her prayers are going out to those in the Gulf. Now that makes me feel better, for sure (NOT!). This tragedy will be with us for a long time to come.

Nancy said...

DJan - How nice of Sarah to send out her prayers NOW. 5,000 dolphins giving birth in the Gulf are at risk.

They've mentioned the spill a bit on the news here as well... looks like it's going to be a full-blown ecological disaster! :o(

Nancy said...

Chris - They lied right off the bat. BP said it was only 1000 gallons per day - ecologists say it's closer to 5,000 gallons per day.

they i am sure are eerily quiet now...so sad.

The crazy right has found a way to blame it on Obama. Yep. Limbaugh was suggesting it was done on purpose by "wacko environmentalists" so Obama wouldn't have to go through with the off-shore drilling he talked about doing earlier this month.

Oh yes what does the former Gov. have to say? I'd be interested in the I'm-getting-ready-to-shudder kind of way.

Thank you Nancy!

Brian - They'll figure out a way to slither out of what they said - probably convince us we heard them wrong, etc, etc.

Jayne - Just as I thought. Not a surprise there. Rush things everyone is as brain-dead as he is.

Leah - I wish she would just implode, already.

Bonnie - I just can't keep quiet on this one.

Their stock reply is always...'that was different'. As if it excuses them.

And Rush said what?!? the sad thing is that people will believe him. And that is the saddest thing of all, that people WILL believe it.

Bruce Coltin said...

I'm afraid this story is going to get worse day by day. The sad truth is that nobody really knows the ending. If this doesn't result in a clean energy Manhattan Project, nothing will.

Nancy said...

Ellen - I know. It is truly sad.

Bruce - If it did, then something good would come of it. We can only hope.

It's probably going to eclipse Valdez. The right wing is calling it Obama's Katrina. Sorry, not even close. Obama's mistake was caving to the repugs on drilling, on health care, etc.

I can't even begin to say what I think about Palin....this is a family friendly blog, right?
But yes, where is she now with her cutesy little quips, and her "rogue" approach to politics and life....where is she now???

Pat said...

You betcha she's quiet!

I keep wondering why the fire and explosion occurred. And how many died and how many were saved.

The oil spill is more than disappointing. So difficult to watch and wait for its destruction. BP - act responsibly for your disaster. Now!

It is an absolute tragedy... so so so sad

Mike said...

Why do they have to do it offshore? At least on land, if something goes wrong, they can contain it. Between Nature and man, the gulf coast has been devastated!

Marguerite said...

It's more like 200,000 gallons a day! A tragedy for everyone, especially along the gulf coast, not to mention the ecological damage. Maybe if BP has to foot the bill, they will make sure that safety rules are enforced in the future.

Jo said...

Talk about synchronicity...! You and I often do posts about the same topic, at the same time.

This oil spill is horrific, just off the coast from a couple of wildlife sanctuaries. What idiot allowed that??

But for a company like BP, it's just the cost of doing business.

Nancy: you weren't kidding. we really are channeling one another. how funny is that? maybe we'll get a "Red Tent" thing going here with a few others.

Excellent post & photo choices & quotes btw. :)

so true as trish and rob said that it will all eclipse the valdez! sadly true!! what a mess!!! literally! is it any wonder our poor planet is struggling underground above ground and all around!

and sadly, also right on obama! sadly so! neat post, nancy!

It makes me so sad, reading about this. But it might stop Pres. Obama from going ahead with his plans to open so much area to drilling.

Nancy said...

Trish & Rob - This is right after the reef accident in Australia. It makes me physically ill.

Hilary - She's said she is praying for the Gulf. Somehow prayers after the fact just ring hollow.

Pat - But she has anyone opposing offshore drilling "in her crosshairs!"

Midlife - One thing we should have learned after the last two years - we cannot expect big corporations to police themselves. It's like asking the wolf to guard the chicken coop.

Eternally - Very sad.

Otin - My thoughts exactly. We need clean energy and yesterday!

Marguerite - Unfortunately we cannot expect that will happen. They always say how sorry they are AFTER the fact. We need double-hulled ships for transporting oil and we need a clean energy source. All countries should be working 24-7 on cold fusion on something that will eliminate coal and oil.

Jo - And Obama had just said yes to more off-shore drilling! The universe works in mysterious ways...

California - Jo wrote about it too. :-)

Star - Thanks for the link.

Gypsy - I fear for our future. I really do.

Reya - I would hope so.

This whole awful mess just breaks my heart for the eco damage it will do. I will not be watching the news for awhile, as those inevitable heartbreaking pics of oil drenched wildlife just break my heart.

Nancy said...

Brit Gal - I'm with you. I can't watch either.

Marlene said...

Oh God.. Rush L is saying the environmentalist could be involved in the sabatoge to cause this oil spill Everything is twisted to benefit thier delusional minds...I am sure S Palin has something as ridiculous to say..When I think of what this has done..I can't even put into words my sadness and anger...I am beyond words at this point..

Nancy said...

Marlene - I am beyond caring what Rush has to say. His inane verbosity is inconsequential at this point. Ugly little man.

Marlene said...

Nancy.. that is what I call him..Ugly Little Man! when I think of the millions that actually listen to that man?? I fear for our country. A dangerous cult.

Nancy said...

Marlene - As are the Old (tea) Baggers. Not to mention the militias...

Shrinky said...

It's not as though we can't tap into clean, renewable sources of energy,is it? This is only the latest man-made ecological disaster, tragically, it is virtually certain not to be the last. Will it change our energy policies? Depressingly, it's doubtful. (Sigh..)

Nancy said...

Shrinky - I'm not sure what it's going to take.

GYPSYWOMAN said...

oh, yeah, marlene and nancy, i also heard green peace was to blame for it! and it's so true how scarey and sad so many followers and believers in all that tripe!!!

Now it's supposedly headed to Florida.

While many other countries engaged in off-shore drilling require the installation of safety valves that would eliminate this type of issue, the US continues to let oil companies ignore common sense rules. Whatever can go wrong will. And in Washington, that’s the case more often than not. Boycott BP. Now they’ve killed all the oyster and shrimp beds, and a good share of the fish you would find at your local market. The cost of the safety valve is $500,000.

Nancy said...

Trish & Rob - I am so sorry!

susan - BP should be put out of business. $500,000 could have saved this mess? How do they sleep at night?

Whoops, my last rant had a typo!
