Boy Handled

That's what my husband has been calling our trip to Oregon tomorrow. He tells everyone we are going to be "boy handled."

It will be an experience. Our grandson has not been apart from his mother and father for over 24 hours in any one stretch. They will leave for 10 days to Costa Rica, and we will be the care providers of a two year old firmly attached to his parents. We have no idea how he will handle this separation, but we intend to thoroughly enjoy being with him. Now that my playmate is returning to work, this will be our last getaway for a while. Luckily the new company is allowing him to work from Portland, as I would have been alone with my little guy. (It's been quite a while since I've handled a two year old all by myself.) This way his Gumpa will have some quality time before our lives become tied down once again.

In other news, my youngest will be home from Thailand on Friday. Not a moment too soon for her family. She lost her only form of money the second day she was there! Thank goodness for Western Union and Internet cafes. Maybe next time she will listen to her mother when she tells her to take two ways of accessing money while traveling.

On second thought. Probably not.

This boyhandling should be fun! I look forward to the stories you'll be telling!

Well, this will be interesting! I hope that the weather in this part of Oregon improves within the next 24 hours.....today there has been a wee bit of sun, showers, and a monster hailstorm! Also, the Blazers game is Thursday evening, but in Phoenix so the traffic shouldn't be too troubling.

I cannot believe how many people I know and have heard of who have gone to Costa Rica! It's really the place right now, it seems. My sis and her family went three years ago and they enjoyed that canopy wire thing where you go from treetop to treetop. She was disappointed with some aspects of the trip, though....but she was disappointed with Greece, so I am beginning to think that fate has blessed the wrong sister with the resources to travel!

Nancy, enjoy the time with the little tacker and I do hope that he doesn't get too stressed in the absence of his Mummy and Daddy.

You said that it's been awhile since you've been alone with a 2 year old. Let me give you a clue here. Don't pack him away in that box! LOL!

Have a wonderful time with him! You'll probably be exhausted so put your feet up when he takes a nap. He DOES still takes a nap, doesn't he?

Hey - if your daughter listened to you, she'd be the very first daughter IN THE WORLD to listen and take advice from her mother. Just saying....

Oy, ten days! 10 wonderful days but 10 days nonetheless. The thing I miss most about moving to the country is having my grandkids around all the time who live next door in the city. Wednesdays when I spend the day in the city has been my one day a week to see them for the last three or four weeks. I admire you for taking on a two year old for 10 days. My four from 9 - 13, wear me out in three days.

He really is a very sweet looking little guy. I hope you both have a wonderful time.

A Canadian friend of mine got stuck in Memphis (without money or documents) where she'd attended a conference last year. She had to wait nearly two weeks but got a wonderful taste of southern hospitality and kindness. You just never know. Still, Thailand without money would likely be very different.

Oh fun! i'm sure the time will pass quickly and the little one will be firmly attached to you by the time his parents return (and you to him!) i'm a little envious, i love 2 year olds. have a wonderful time!
(and yes, what a relief your own girl is on her way home). We want to see them go, but how happy we are when they come back!

Where in Costa Rica? It is a beautiful country. I have been twice and absolutely, adore it. The coffee is excellent.
Have a wonderful time with your grandson. Yes, I had heard the weather was rainy. My sisters live in Eugene and hope for warmer, sunny weather. I hope you find it while visiting.

How wonderful that you're going to be boy handled for a while! He is so adorable, and I'm sure that he will absolutely love being with his grandparents. They all do! And I'm glad that your dear daughter is coming home. I hear you on the probably not.

Aw, what a little darling he looks! I'm sure a fine, if exhausting, time time will be had by all (smile). Losing your cash on holiday is no laughing matter, but to lose it so far from home must have been a nightmare - poor girl!

The best times in life are when we have time with the grandchildren. I love your Sam Levenson quote about grandparents.

You are a brave, brave woman. I don't know if I still have the energy for a two year old. But I do know that you will have fun. I am betting he will have a harder time letting you go at the end of the 10 days then letting mamma and pappa go. Your daughter is lucky to have you - and so is that darling little guy. Have a wonderful visit.

Good luck with your little stinker! It's definitely going to be a ride.

I laughed out loud at the photo, Nancy! It just might be a bit of a ride, but your handling skills will sharpen up pretty quick, I'm sure.
Pretty wonderful for your kids to have you available to give them a break, and peace of mind knowing their little guy is with somebody who loves him as much as they do.

I was thinking about your daughter while Thailand was in the news last week - I'm sure you're very relieved that she's coming back.

Good luck, and enjoy yourself, especially knowing that it's only for 10 days!

Nancy, i think caring for someone who can have a good time in a cardboard box can be life changing! At our age you would think we learned it all. I think you and gumpa are about to learn some more!=0D

It has been awhile since I visited many blogs.
Decided to do a quick visit to say hello to as many blogs as possible tonight..
Nice to visit your blog its been ages, I am sure it will not be so long again especially now my life is getting better.
I went out this afternoon for the first time since 19 August 2009 and it was brilliant.
Lovely to feel my world getting bigger again after all this time in bed.
Have a good evening and a pleasant day tomorrow.

Have fun sitting your sweet grandson. They are so much fun. I get to do this 2 days a week for my granddaughter...age 15 months...and she's a handful. Makes me well aware of my age at the end of the day. Glad you'll have some help.

Your daughter is so fortunate that she has ya'll to come take care of him for 10 days. And they are really jumping in with both feet, huh? Never more than a 24 hour absence and now they'll be gone for a week and a half. Well, it should be an adventure, and I hope you have time to let us know how it's going!
