Mamas And Their Babies

I know I've been remiss in reading all of your blogs lately, but I've been busy watching this off of our lanai in Maui:

So far my daughter and grandson have arrived, and we look forward to the other daughter and our son-in-law on Tuesday. Then things should really be hopping. For us, one of the very best parts is that the whales have arrived to calve,  and we've enjoyed watching a mama and her baby most of the afternoon. She is very close to shore, probably nursing in shallow waters.

I've enjoyed all of your comments from my last post! Wishing you lots of fun and new traditions this holiday season.

Glad you're having a grand time.

The whale pictures remind me of a brief trip to Churchill, Manitoba, to see the Beluga Whales in their calving ground. (Short trip, interesting time.)

i kept hearing the jaws tune pounding in my head....yeah, i'm weird but i wanted to know 'where's that mama' - i have issues with boats, the ocean and large mammals ;)

One of my favorite sights ever was in Hawaii watching mama spinner dolphins teaching their babies to spin. Amazing!

Nancy, you're so lucky to have that kind of nature play right in front of you!! How wonderful - great that you put up a video to share with us.

I've just spent some time reading your most recent posts and won't comment on each one, but particularly liked the one about changing traditions. You've got a great attitude about accepting the new traditions that your children establish - it's the only way to be, isn't it?

We have broken with the turkey tradition and will be feasting on roast venison on the 24th, which has become our big day in order to accommodate children's partners.
Christmas is still spent at my house though, although that will change in the coming years I suspect.
Do have a wonderful time in beautiful Hawaii - Merry Christmas to you and may you continue to share your thoughts and discoveries with us all in 2011.
