SuperMoon



Today at 2:10 p.m. eastern time we will enter into a SuperMoon, a term coined by astrologist Richard Nolle for Dell Publishing over thirty years ago for Horoscope magazine. It refers to that time when the Earth, Sun and Moon are all aligned, with the Earth in the center. The Moon is as close as it comes in orbit to the Earth, with astronomers calling it a perigee-syzgy.

They are noteworthy because of their close association with extreme tidal forces, coastal tides, severe storms, powerful earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.

Not to mention the water sloshing around in ourselves. You may want to consider this full moon if you're heading out to bay at the moon tonight.

The last time we had a SuperMoon was in January - and we also had an earthquake in Christchurch. Hurricane Katrina was within three days of one, as was Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, Galveston, Texas in 1900, and the Loma Prieta earthquake in California. Can anyone forget the images of collapsing bridges? These are just a few examples of major events happening within three days of a SuperMoon.

    Maybe the Japanese earthquake was an early harbinger of this moon? Anyway, I'll be hoping that the water sloshing around inside me stays contained today. :-)

    Thanks for posting this. Never thought you'd go to Fox for info (hahahahahahaha!) Actually, I knew nothing about the BIG MOON til last night when I had drinks w/ a client. Now, it's all over the place. This video creeps me out tho'. As a native CA girl, we have always known it was a matter of "when", we just don't know when that time will come. Right now, I am not sorry to be in the mtns of N.H. and I'll bet you're not sorry to be back in Reno. The Japanese devastation is a wake up call we Californians should heed, impossible tho' it may seem. Oh boy, I'm gettin' all doomsday-ey,

    I think just about anything could happen right now. The world seems a very unstable place. Perhaps the Mayans were right?

    Saw her extra big self when she first rose above the horizon before she went behind the clouds. Tides are okay though. My daughter said her 8 year old was incredibly moody the last few days. Related?

    Very interesting post! I know that the Super Moon has been affecting me! But I certainly hope they are wrong about another earthquake.

    I'm so mad. I really wanted to see the Supermoon, but it's pouring rain here in my neck of California. :(

    I was in the Northridge quake in So Cal back in '94. Until then, I was raised in quake country and never paid much attention. But that one was impressive. I don't need to do that again, thank you.

    California - It was U-Tube - not Faux for me. Coming from California you have had to live with the threat, that's for sure.

    Couldn't see the moon for clouds. And we didn't notice any unusual lunacy among the Humans in this area. (We Bears are always interested in Humans behaviour.)

    I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am used to the quakes and the talks of. I had heard that we would probably get a 5.0 in the nest 6 days. Five schmive...no biggy. And...I am one of those sillys who don't have a earthquake preparedness kit. I've been thinking about it a lot lately!

    He's just saying that the signs are all around us, if we/they just look and acknowledge them.
