Widgets and Other Changes

You'll notice some changes on my sidebars. I'm looking at new widgets and playing around. You may notice that I deleted my 'favorites' blog roll. It had become unmanageable, and many were of people that I have not heard from in ages, nor have I visited them. I'll follow up on comments, and continue to read your blogs on my dashboard reader. Many of you have inspired me with your new looks, not to mention your new voices. It's really great - especially to meet new blogging friends.

Any cool widget ideas?

  1. I have been very happy with the search widget, it really helps me find things on my blog. And I see they now have a counter, and other things that seem quite cool. I do like the looks of your blog these days...

  3. I had a double comment left on the blog, so I deleted one, and now neither one of them shows up! Not sure what I did wrong.

  5. Ooh, love the new look, very sleek! I have NOTHING to offer on the advice front - just one peek at my site should let you know why, I am totally technically challenged (sigh)..

  6. been loving your new look-you inspired me to take the plunge and slowly learning how to do the code--yikes, lots harder than the old ones...i haven't got any for you right now, maybe your facebook page if you have one, a badge, or a counter of some sort, i like my heart map, that's fun and the heart's beat if someone's on. otherwise, will think about it.

  7. Yup, this new looks suits you. I can still envision your blog's template when I first started reading you and I loved it back then too. :)

I can see why you would delete your blogroll from a sidebar, but if I do that (and I may sometime) I will add a tabbed blogroll elsewhere.

Was curious about that new feature with best posts and it looks great here so I might see about it. I need to do some paring down in my sidebar beforehand, though. :)

  8. Ah Nancy, you're not leaving after all. You're just freshening up. Good for you.

I might do it one day soon, too, but for now same old look.

I tend to rely on my words alone. Not good enough for some I know but good enough for me.

    Happy renovating.

  9. Love the look! I'm wondering how you made the "Life in the Second Half" widget?

  10. Widget? What's a widget? I cannot change, do you know how long it took me and how many frantic calls to my kids to master what I do have!!!!!!!

  13. I understand about the favorites... I recently weeded through half, and no difference (except a twinge of guilt). But, I have never heard from anyone I dropped, so no problems on that.

I read daily (whenever you post, but don't comment unless I have something to add. i do appreciate my button is still there, but certainly understand if you weed through those as well.

Came for your content, staying for your content. the widgets are just for pretty

  14. I have no ideas for widgets, but I like he "cleaner" look you are going for. Truth be told I rarely look at much other than your posts. I love to visit here. It is never boring and I generally learn something new. I hope all is well. Blessings...Mary

  15. Have to admit that I still not know much what these are and their usage.

    Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday.

  16. You've inspired me to shop for widgets too!

  17. The design DOES look good. I'm guilty of just reading my blog subscriptions from my Reader, and only click over if the post mentions a change :-0

  18. Love your blog for its content...as well as the look. I will miss the blog roll though...I have been fortunate to find some very interesting, informative, and fun sites by visiting some of the blogs that were on your sidebar and probably wouldn't have known about them otherwise.

  19. A little housecleaning is a good thing. I'm not a huge widget fan but I do like the search mode.

  20. Love your new look, but I have way too many widgets, as it is. I would like to switch templates, but find that the new ones are too narrow for all of the videos that I post.

  21. The blogroll is always unwieldy. Sometimes I try to keep it up to date, other times I just ignore it.

  22. It looks lovely, Nancy. Bright and cheerful. Plus, I like that your sidebars reflect things that are important to you.

By the way? I cheered aloud when I read I wasn't the only one struggling with a Mac, Nancy. Seriously, thank you for letting me know that. I've been hearing, "Huh, I love mine, love it." a lot.

Turns out I'm keeping good company. Glad to hear you're having funny chasing your little grand one :-)

  23. No, widget ideas, but you want to work on my site? I figure it I wait long enough, it will be back in style.

    Hope all is well.

  25. I don't have many widgets on my blog, but I do like my blog list, so I can see when folks have posted recently. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with everyone,

I think your blog looks very nice.

  26. I like the link within widget but it doesn't work for me at the moment because I deleted a lot of my older posts, fearing that too many posts and pictures would slow up the whole thing. I then had to take off the link within widget because it was pointing to posts that I had already deleted, d'oh! I didn't expect it to do that.
    I like your new look.

  27. Love the Winston Churchill quote and love the new look too. I think I need to do some housekeeping on my home page too.

  28. Personally, I'll miss your blog roll; I'm flattered that I've been on it as I hold your blog in high esteem. I also enjoy seeing that people have clicked on my blog from yours (via my Statcounter). If I'm dumped from a blog roll, I'll dump. It's reciprocal; if I get a new follower, I'll follow, even if they don't post often or visit me. I rarely use the Dashboard or Google Reader roll.
