What was I thinking?

My clothes were in storage for so long, now it's - what was I thinking?? That is so not cute...

Goodwill is going to make a killing as we realize we no longer need all the wool we did while in Minnesota. I will miss wearing hats everywhere in the winter, however. I had some cute ones with flowers on the side that made everyone laugh every time I wore them...

Why did I ever think I needed so many scarves and spatulas? My husband has a plethora of white socks, and Lucy is amazed to find a whole tub of toys she'd forgotten about. The Internet is working, but not email. The invisible fence is in, but Lucy won't venture further than the door for fear we will leave her here, forever encased in this lovely tomb. So she's sticking close.

I'm watching Ice Road Truckers in between boxes, and catching a blog here and there. Hope you have all have had a great weekend!

  2. Must be fun going through those boxes. Pity about the hats, though. I'm starting now and, when I leave, everything in the kitchen cupboards will go to the Opp-shop and we'll buy new at the other end; that'll save a lot of packing! Enjoy your new place!

  3. nothing like moving to push your "what was i thinking" button!
sometimes i think i want to move and start over fresh...but then i think i'd never survive the de-ACCUMULATION OF STUFF :D

  6. We did the same thing two years ago when we moved here, and it's amazing how many of the things I threw out that we've replaced...

  7. Oh I'd have a hard time getting rid of stuff. Glad to hear you're in your new digs, safe and sound.

  8. I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering how the move was going. What a revelation, right? Unpacking a life left behind. Perhaps the spatulas just multiplied in the dark.

  9. My dad always got mad at my mom when they moved, because she waited until they were in the new house to get rid of a bunch of stuff. He always wanted to know why he had to pay to move it, if she was just going to toss it out later!

  10. We found out when we moved halfway across the U.S. and had all our stuff in storage while we lived in a small motel room that you really don't need much to exist. Food, a place to lay your head, and family and friends are all you really need. Glad you are slowly getting established in your new residence.

  11. Ice Road Truckers????? I saw a promo for that yesterday morning and couldn't believe it was for real. I guess the opps for reality shows are endless when you think about it.

If I ever leave NH for a warmer clime I'll be purging as well.

  13. It's a wonderful feeling to purge, isn't it? Out with the old, in with the new!

  14. oh, yes, all those wonderful beautiful things we once could not do without - that added such wonder to our lives and our looks [or so we thought at that moment] - but on to different and other in your new place! you'll have so much fun replacing all those things!!! enjoy!

  16. I thought that was what moving was for... getting rid of all the excess stuff that accumulates in our lives! There's nothing better than pulling something out that's been hiding in a box for a couple of years to know if you really need it or can do without! ;o)

By the way: I don't know if you've kept up with your blog-reading what with the move and all (probably not!), but World Oceans Day is here again! June 8th! I wrote a post on Friday announcing another edition of the Oceanic Blog-A-Thon and hope you'll join in again! If all the unpacking lets you of course...

    Good luck!

  17. I've moved lots of times and each time I rediscover that anything which has remained in a box for more than six months is something I can live without!
Good luck with your new home.
    Blessings, Star

  18. There's something so exciting about a fresh start! I wish you much fun with the unpacking and purging. Just know that someone else is going to get joy from all that you no longer need. It's a win-win:)

  19. Oh yeah. I am having the same experience, going through boxes of things I moved into this space nine years ago. Please explain why I was keeping this stuff. Please?

  20. OH my! take care of you....smiles.

  21. Purging - such an excellent word! It is a fabulous thing to do and clears not just the space around, but the space within. Be ruthless, Nancy!

  22. Spatulas and scarves are my life!

Clothes in storage for 5 years - that must have been like opening a time capsule!

  23. Glad the move is going smoothly...hope you're enjoying your new digs. I bet you won't miss the wool! Or the Minnesota snow!

  24. We're in the midst of sorting through stuff we've had stored for three years in order to be ready to move later this year. Clothes I'm not bothered about nor kitchen stuff either but the books.. I love my books.

  25. The joy of that discovery! Things forgotten that we used to hold dear. We go through our clothing periodically and ask ourselves "do we REALLY need this?"

I love those flowery hats. :)

  26. getting rid of hats? throw some my way, I love hats.
Enjoy the new place, de-clutter, if you can, and keep the momentum going. Have fun!

  27. I'm glad your move went well and Lucy is sort of dealing with the new place.

  28. Too funny! We'll have that same experience when we go through our stuff, and it's been in storage 5 years so far! And yes, we have clothes in there! Jim's suits will still be in style, but my dresses and such? I don't think so! I'm sure that when the time comes we, too, will laugh and look at things and say, "WHY THE HECK DID WE SAVE THIS?"

Hope you get settled soon. :)

  29. i love hats, but they look terrible on my head. i just don't have a "hat shaped" head at all and my hair is so fine that it looks awful when i take the hat off.

Please visit my blog. I've left a little something there for you.

  30. I'm just catching up on my blogging, and I didn't even realize you moved...! Enjoy your new place (and the fact that you won't need woolen hats anymore *heh*).

  31. I don't plan on moving for awhile but I fantasize about it all the time and I get so overwhelmed just thinking about all the stuff I have. It's frightening. However, I do think that one can never have too many spatulas especaially if he spends a lot of time in the kitchen.
