I am preparing for my daughter and grandson, who will be on their way here this afternoon. So off I went to the local Farmer's Market in Kings Beach. The market is small, with less than ten vendors, but they have everything I want. I used to enjoy the one in Lake Oswego, when we lived in Portland, but it was big and took a couple of hours to scan and then shop. This one takes about two minutes to see what everyone has to offer. Then the shopping is over in less than half an hour. Perfect. More time to spend cooking and planning for my very special guests.
Look at these strawberries! It is so nice to be near California and all it has to offer in fruits and vegetables.

Those berries look scrumptious. What are those yellow ones called? I just got back from the grocery store with blueberries, but half of them are molded or bad. I wish we had a good farmer's market here in Las Vegas. We do have one, but it isn't very good. The fruit is nowhere near what your photos show. Enjoy. ReplyDeleteI just came into my office from having a light supper of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and peaches. I KNOW it is not a "natural" mix, but how I love the luxury of mixing fruits. ReplyDeleteWe've had soooo much rain this year, the local strawberries had little flavor. I find myself buying California strawberries even tho' they're shipped cross country because they are better than the local ones.
I am immediately starving!

ReplyDeleteTheir season is over here... you can get them at 5€ for 500g pack, too expensive and they're no longer very good. I miss them!
As for other berries... also available at scandalous prices! If I lived a bit further north or inland I could go berrying in the hills and get blackberries ("moras" here). I used to have so much fun doing that when I visited y grandparents at their summer retreat!
Wow. My blackberry bushes have lots of berries but none are black yet. These and the selection of other berries you photographed are just flat out beautiful.

How great is it when fruit is so fresh that it doesn't even get wrapped up?! I love that. And, You can also steal some while nobody is looking. I like that too!
